When it comes to trench excavation, there are certain things to be kept in mind
1. Upto 2 meter depth, whatever the diameter of the pipe, we should excavate 250 mm extra to make way for laying of the pipes
2. If the depth is more than 2 meter, then for each metre of extra depth, 100 mm extra width on each side has to be provided.
3. The soil has to be firm and stable. No loose and uneven base
