This episode of my series of tutorials on how to play piano for beginners series has three new pieces to learn to help you expand your piano repertoire. This lesson is all about consolidating and revising the piano and music reading skills you've learned so far. With that in mind, I've written three short, easy piano pieces in a variety of styles to really help you stretch yourself and practise your skills. The first is a short waltz in F major in 3/4 time. It involves a fair amount of jumping around the piano keyboard and careful use of your piano's sustain pedal. The second is quite a straightforward piece in G — straightforward in terms of notes at least! The challenge here is to maintain the dynamic balance between the left hand ("sempre piano" — i.e, soft throughout) and the mf (mezzo forte, medium loud) right hand. The third piece, a blues in C, again helps you work on control of dynamic contrast and also requires you to use a swing feel — an important concept when reading written music in a jazz or blues style.
