Fast Radio Bursts, or “FRBs”, are short, powerful, beams of radio waves that come from galaxies billions of light years away. Prior to that, he lived in The Netherlands working at the University of Amsterdam. Liam received his PhD in 2016 from the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics at the University of Toronto. He began as a cosmologist, but transitioned to fast radio bursts halfway through his doctorate. He also works at the interface of artificial intelligence and astronomy, building new machine learning tools to better understand the Universe. In his free time Liam likes back-country skiing, puppet stop motion, and tending to his silkie chickens. https://liamconnorastro.com/ Dr. Stephanie Deppe [pronounced DEH-puh] is the Astronomy Content Strategist for the Vera Rubin Observatory, where she develops online content to share all the cool science the observatory will do after it turns on in 2024. In a past academic life she worked with the Dark Energy Survey collaboration to study…the solar system, actually, and her research group discovered over 800 new objects orbiting the sun beyond Neptune. Outside of astronomy and science communication, she loves hiking, rock climbing, baking, reading, and forcing her grumpy cat to hang out with her. She uses space and ground based telescopes to study protoplanetary disks and the atmospheres of planets around other stars to try to understand how planets form and evolve.
