He mainly uses pencil-and-paper calculations to study various explosive phenomena, including stellar explosion, double neutron star collision, radio bursts of unknown origin from billions of light years away, and what happens when a star falls into a black hole. He also enjoys rock climbing and hiking. https://windbinderue.wixsite.com/wenbinlu Nikita Kamraj is a PhD candidate in observational high-energy astrophysics at Caltech. Her PhD thesis focuses on the study of accreting supermassive black holes, known as Active Galactic Nuclei. She uses spectroscopic data from various X-ray telescopes to investigate the nature and geometry of material surrounding these supermassive black holes. Outside of academic research, she is heavily involved in student advocacy initiatives and is strongly committed to improving gender representation in STEM fields. She also loves Japanese culture and enjoys learning Japanese, watching anime and reading manga. Dr. Jessie Christiansen is a research scientist at the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute at Caltech. She searches for, characterizes, and catalogs planets around other stars. She used to have hobbies but now has small children instead, so she spends most of her free time in dramatic play with one and playing board games with the other. He creates supercomputer simulations to study the formation and evolution of galaxies since the Big Bang.
