Full Transcript

Following our sneak peak of the new series of the Cosmos television show, we held a Q&A Panel to answer questions about astronomy and space science from our audience. Panelists: Dr. Cameron Hummels is a postdoctoral researcher in the department who studies how galaxies form and evolve using detailed supercomputer simulations. Dr. Ilaria Caiazzo is a Burke postdoctoral fellow in the theoretical astrophysics group at Caltech who works on the last phases of the lives of stars: white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes. André Bormanis is an American television producer, screenwriter, and author of the book Star Trek: Science Logs, and science advisor for the Cosmos television series. Dr. Jason Wang is a 51 Pegasi b postdoctoral research in the astronomy department. He works on directly imaging exoplanets using some of the largest telescopes in the world. Dr. Arpita Roy is a Millikan postdoctoral fellow at Caltech improving instrumentation and data analysis techniques for the detection of exoplanets, in order to advance us into the realm of extreme precision spectroscopy necessary for the discovery of Earth analogs.
