First of all, I have discussed the issue of carry propagation in ripple carry adder which results in propagation delay due to dependency upon previous stage carry. Carry look ahead (CLA) adder removes the dependency on previous stage carry and add extra combination circuit to compute all carries simultaneously which results in a fixed minimum 3 Gate Level delays.
