Today we are sharing an interview with IBM director, Damon Deaner. This topic was requested by you guys, Design Thinking. Design thinking is a process for creative problem solving. By now most of you have heard about design thinking’s tools: an emphasis on reframing problems and experimentation, as well as the use of diverse teams. Design thinking frames the discussion as an inquiry into what would have to be true about the world for an idea to be feasible. It encourages organizations to focus on the people for whom they are creating products and services. When design thinking is used, you are pulling together what is desirable from a human point of view with what is possible technologically, and what is viable economically. You need to start the process with taking action and understanding the right questions. Design thinking process is not always linear. Design thinking includes processes such as context analysis/empathizing, defining the problem your users are experiencing, generating creative and even crazy ideas/solutions, sketching/drawing/modelling/prototyping, testing/user feedback evaluation, and implementing.
