Data is information that may be numeric, text, graphic, or audio. Data is collected and processed to for many different things such as analyzing financial investments, housing market predictions, weather forecasts, and even predicting what movies you may want to watch next on Netflix. Data varies based on several factors: Scope. The amount of data produced and collected. Ex: A small company might track an inventory of a few thousand items, but a large company like Amazon may track billions of items. Format. Data can be numbers, text, image, audio, or video. Ex: Facebook collects text data when you enter your personal information, and images when you upload your vacation photos. Access. Some data sources are public, while others are made private. Ex: Some companies purchase private data in order to learn your shopping patterns and predict what you may buy next. Data was historically mostly analog and stored on physical media such as vinyl disks and tapes. Data is currently mostly digitally stored on electronic and magnetic media, such as hard drives. Large computer databases such as Oracle were invented due to the shift from analog to digital data. Subscribe to Appficial for more programming videos coming soon.
