This module introduces the foundations of social enterprise and explores how mission-driven entrepreneurs use business tools to solve social, environmental, and economic problems. Module 1 covers the core concepts of social entrepreneurship, the journey of a social entrepreneur, characteristics of successful founders, understanding your personal mission and strengths, overcoming barriers such as fear and imposter syndrome, and why now is an ideal time to launch a social enterprise. What You’ll Learn in Module 1 This module introduces the fundamentals of social entrepreneurship, including: • What a social enterprise is and how it differs from traditional businesses • The Triple Bottom Line • The real journey of a social entrepreneur • Profit and purpose as mutually reinforcing goals • Personal mission, values, and defining your “Why” • Key entrepreneurial traits such as grit, execution, adaptability, and customer focus • Overcoming fear, doubt, and imposter syndrome • Identifying your strengths, resources, and support systems • Examples of successful social enterprises from around the world • Why the global moment for social entrepreneurship is stronger than ever This module also features insights from the presenter, Victor Macias (Shark Tank alum, consultant, CSUF Startup Incubator mentor), and his own journey into social enterprise.
