The demonstrative adjective “questo” agrees with the following noun: - masculine and singular: questo libro (= this book) - masculine and plural: questi libri (= these books) - feminine and singular: questa penna (= this pen) - feminine and plural: queste penne (= these pens) The demonstrative adjective “quello” agrees with the following noun as well but it follows the same rules as the definite articles (il, lo, l’, la, i, gli, le). - Masculine and singular: quel libro (= that book), quell’amico (= that friend), quello zaino (= that rucksack) because we say il libro, l’amico, lo zaino. - Masculine and plural: quei libri (= those books), quegli amici (= those friends), quegli zaini (= those rucksacks) because we say i libri, gli amici, gli zaini. - Feminine and singular: quella penna (= that pen), quell’amica (= that friend) because we say la penna and l’amica. - Feminine and plural: quelle penne (= those pens), quelle amiche (= those friends) because we say le penne and le amiche.
