Last class we studied how to listen better and today we see 3 mistakes we must avoid while talking to other people: 1- Stop comparing yourself to the speaker. When people are sharing their stories our brain prepares "a better story" to tell, to show we're better. Stop doing it. Value the other person's experience. 2- Stop trying to read people's minds. Listen to what people say instead of filtering only what you want them to say or feel. Pay attention to their information, not yours. 3- Stop giving poor responses. People want to be heard and whatever they say, they want you to be interested. Ask WH questions so they can share more information with you. Avoid being focused in yourself. To be interesting you must be interested in the other person. "Assertive listeners ask clarifying questions, and they reassure the speaker that the message is being heard and understood".
