Initially launched in 1973, this single-user platform was prized for its efficiency in scientific research, industrial automation, and data collection. The system was primarily coded in assembly language and featured a monolithic kernel capable of handling multiple tasks through specialized monitor variants. Its command-line interface and file management conventions significantly influenced later disk operating systems. Though now discontinued, RT-11 supported a diverse ecosystem of programming languages and inspired various clones and compatible versions internationally.
