Power system protection is a branch of electrical power engineering that deals with the protection of electrical power systems from faults through the disconnection of faulted parts from the rest of the electrical network. Power system protection emerged at the beginning of the last century, with the application of the first electro-mechanical overcurrent relay. The majority of the protection principles currently employed in protection relays were developed within the first three decades of the last century, such as overcurrent, directional, distance and differential protection. The development of modern science and technology, especially electronic and computer technology, promoted the development of relay technology such as materials, components and the manufacturing process of the hardware structure of relay protection device. At the same time, great theoretical progress had been made in the relay protection software, algorithms, etc. Key takeaways from this webinar Recent development in power system protection and control - Wide area protection - Integrated protection and control - New concepts and developments Presenter: Dr. Munira Batool, EIT Lecturer and Postgraduate Supervisor Dr. Munira Batool is working in the field of teaching and Research related to Electrical Engineering for past 16 years. She had completed her PhD from Curtin University Australia in 2019 and then started her role as Postgraduate Research Supervisor at EIT. Munira’s research expertise are related to following domains: 1. Design and Modelling of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) 2. Power Quality Issues in Renewable energy Sector 3. Microgrids optimization and operation; 4. Optimization of Clustered Microgrids 5. Machine learning in modern power systems __ The Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) is one of the only institutes in the world specializing in Engineering. We deliver industry-focused professional certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, undergraduate and graduate certificates, bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and a Doctor of Engineering to students from over 140 countries. -- FOLLOW US!
