As Project Managers we need to be able to present our information in the most simple straight forward ways possible. Microsoft Project is a tool that when used properly helps us to do that. This planning and scheduling software functions like a database, you enter a lot of information into it. Often new users are unaware of the features of the program that allow the user to filter, sort and leverage the data for ease of use in application. For example if you manage construction projects the schedule may be several years long and have hundreds of tasks, you can filter this information to suit your needs. One example is you can filter tasks by a date range that will display only tasks coming up in the next 6 weeks, this is great for short term planning if you do 6 week look ahead schedules. You can also filter by resource so that the screen displays only your drywall subcontractor activities and dates. Learn this and many more features that you can apply using the Sort, Filter, and Highlight features of MS Project.
