I get asked a lot of questions about why is MS Project not acting like I want it to? Usually it is because you are not providing the software with the information it needs to schedule properly or at least the way you visualize your project. Implement these 5 steps in MS Project and you will greatly enhance the quality and professionalism of your schedules. 1. Don't let the software tell you how to schedule. You need to tell the software how you need your project scheduled. 2. Avoid constraints where possible. If you don't know what a constraint is watch this video. 3. Develop a well thought out WBS and don't link to summary tasks 4. Avoid open ends. 5. When you have finished a draft schedule, walk through your project from finish to start (Think Lean Pull Planning) then walk through your project from start to finish.
