Part 3 of 4 of my lecture on International Relations during the Cold War. This video examines the period roughly from the Cuban Missile Crisis to the Iranian Revolution and looks at policies of intervention, proxy wars, and the role of American foreign policy enabling authoritarian regimes in Latin America and the Middle East that were anti-Communist. One major point emphasized in this lecture is the despite US foreign policy rhetorically upholding principles of freedom and democracy in the world, successive governments in Washington were more interested in supporting pro-American, rather than pro-democratic regimes, as witnessed by a number of interventions - diplomatic or military - in Iran, Vietnam, and Chile. It also aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of Constructivism and Realism being maked within a formal (if somewhat questionable) model of Liberalism.
