This is the first video in a long series on the study of international relations. Today, I introduce the topic as a field of study, defining the most important actors and the playing field that they operate on. Afterward, we pivot to the types of causal explanations we are most interesting in examining. We conclude with drawing a distinction between politics and the scientific study of politics. The latter informs the former, but they are *not* the same thing. 0:00 A Good Time to Study International Relations 10:13 Sovereignty 28:15 Anarchy 43:51 Proximate vs. Underlying Causes 52:34 Politics vs. Political Science The appearance of U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and NATO visual information does not imply or constitute an endorsement.
