IFR Training - Expect Vectors to Intercept | Cleared for the ILS | ATC Comms Explained in MSFS 2020

What happens when ATC tells you to "expect vectors to intercept" an approach course? Simply put, the controller will give you headings to fly to orient you on a course to merge or intercept the final approach course like a localizer. On this flight into Austin, we've requested the ILS 36R approach. The controller, in this case Houston Center (normally an "Approach" controller would assign vectors in busy airspace like this), tells us to fly certain headings until we are on a nice course to intercept the localizer. Once we're on course to intercept, we'll be cleared for the approach, and then handed off to the Tower at Austin for landing clearance.
