Early visual processing happens in the back of the occipital lobe, but from there it needs further processing for us to recognize and act on what we're seeing. Indeed, visual information goes from that first stop in the primary visual cortex in two distinct 'streams' or pathways further into the brain: on toward the parietal lobe and one toward the temporal lobe. You'll see here how those streams accomplish different functions for visual perception and how damage to various places along those two pathways lead to very distinct neuropsychological symptoms that tell us about what those brain areas normally do.
