Asymmetric encryption was first developed in the 1970s and includes different types such as Hellman from 1976 and RSA, named after its developers, which was published in 1977. One key difference between symmetric and asymmetric encryption is that for each person or entity using asymmetric encryption, we need two keys. This means that if we have 500 users, we need 1000 keys, whereas with symmetric encryption, we only need one key for each pair that needs to communicate. Asymmetric encryption works by encrypting a message with a public key, which is available to everyone, and decrypting it with a private key, which is kept secret. This allows for secure communication over an unsecured medium like the Internet without the need for a preset key. However, it is important to keep the private key secure as if it is compromised, all messages can be read.
