Some common examples include: Phishing emails: Phishing emails are designed to look like they are from a legitimate source, such as a bank or credit card company. The email will often contain a link or attachment that, when clicked, will install malware on the victim's computer or steal their personal information. Tech support scams: Tech support scammers will call or email victims claiming to be from a tech support company. They will then try to convince the victim to give them remote access to their computer or install malicious software. Baiting: Baiting involves leaving infected USB drives or other devices in public places. When someone finds the device and plugs it into their computer, the malware is installed automatically. Pretexting: Pretexting is a social engineering technique where the attacker creates a false scenario to gain the victim's trust. For example, an attacker might call a victim pretending to be from their bank and ask for their account number. Social engineering attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to detect. That's why it's important to be aware of the different types of attacks and how to protect yourself. Here are some tips to help you protect yourself from social engineering attacks: Be suspicious of unsolicited emails, phone calls, and text messages. Never click on links or open attachments in emails unless you are sure they are from a legitimate source. Be careful about what information you share online and with people you don't know. Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication for all of your online accounts. Keep your software up to date. If you think you may have been a victim of a social engineering attack, contact your bank or credit card company immediately. You should also change your passwords and scan your computer for malware.
