Ethics - What is Natural Law Ethics?

Natural law ethics is a moral theory commonly attributed to St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274). According to this theory, the moral law can be discovered in human nature; it is the dictate of reason and is fundamentally expressed as “do good and avoid evil.” Hence, the theory argues that an action is considered good if it is appropriate to human nature/reason and if it is in accordance with one’s conscience (i.e., the threefold natural human inclinations).
