Fundamentals of Digital Photography with John Greengo - Photography Lighting Lesson - Remember the EGG

Before you can learn 'how" to light, you must learn how to 'SEE" light. I will walk you through a defining moment in my career and how a simple egg, changed the way I approach lighting and photography forever. Watch closely as the light travels slowly around the egg. You may want to replay this part a few times to watch how the shape of the egg changes, the shadow shape and depth changes and the shade and tone of the background changes. In the second example the light simply moves from front to back beginning at the camera like an on camera flash and traveling over the top of the egg towards the background. Now do you understand the importance of the egg? If you are going to photograph the human face and form, the lessons the egg teaches us are invaluable.
