Direct vs Indirect Communication / In the workplace, there are different communication styles that you need to deal with. Some people communicate in a more direct way and could come across as abrupt. While others communicate in an indirect way and can’t seem to get straight to the point. No one style is right. No one style is wrong. They're just different ways of communicating in the workplace. The problem happens when you come from one particular communication style (direct or indirect) and you're talking with someone from the other communication style (direct or indirect). For example, if you're an indirect communicator and you're talking with someone who is direct, or if you're a direct communicator and you're talking with someone who is indirect. When direct and indirect communication styles mix, this is where misunderstanding and miscommunication can happen. Understanding more about your communication style and the other communication style can help bridge any communication gaps, and help you communicate more effectively in the workplace.
