One of the most important things we do as designers is consider colour, after all colour is one of the most important visual elements in design. It can emphasise, evoke emotion, create impact and define a specific look and feel. When applying colour to logo design, I always try to make meaningful and relevant decisions so my design is not arbitrary or subjective. Having good reasons for your design decisions, backed up by relevant research will drastically enhance your creative outcome. If you can add substance this will make your design more appropriate. In the last episode I decided on a specific logo for one of my creative routes. Now up to this point in the design process for my logo design, I have only been thinking in black and white to focus on the idea of the logo and the form factor. Once I feel this is in a really strong place, only then do I then start thinking about colour and I do this for a good reason. By this point all the details will have been worked out, and my black and white logo design should embody some very specific qualities to represent a company, business or product. All that’s left to do is select a colour and my logo design will be complete and ready to present to the client. So with thousands of colours to choose from, and millions of potential combinations...it can be tricky to think of the right colours to use. To help me think about colour for my logo design and make well informed and appropriate choices, I typically undertake 4 tasks: 1 - Consider Colour 2 - Sample Colour 3 - Apply Colour 4 - Perfect Colour In this video, we are going to start to focus on colour and I am going to demonstrate step 1 and how we can consider colour for our logo design So let’s get into it! ***************** DOWNLOAD LINKS: LOGO DESIGN COURSE PROJECT & ASSET FOLDER: Get the course project & asset folder from the course overview video here: https://youtu.be/sfkrp-ca8Gc TUTORIAL COURSE PDF WORKSHEET: Download for FREE PDF from the course overview video here: https://youtu.be/sfkrp-ca8Gc ***************** COURSE PLAYLIST: This video is part of a 44 part course: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYfCBK8IplO6eQSxf_9rhEXQhAHwOujcY ***************** TOPICS COVERED: 00:00 Introduction 02:34 Task 1 - Consider Colour 04:56 1 - Obvious Ideas 07:49 2 - Context, Audience & Strategy 09:44 3 - How Should Colour Feel ***************** FOR MORE EXCLUSIVE CONTENT CHECK OUT: Instagram: https://instagram.com/garethdavidstudio/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/gareth_david Facebook page: https://fb.me/GarethDavidStudio Support On Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/garethdavidstudio LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/company/gareth-david-studios GDS Blog: https://garethdavidstudio.com/blog/ GDS.com: http://garethdavidstudio.com ***************** GD Studio Copyright GarethDavidStudio © All Rights Reserved Content may be distributed freely for educational purposes only Website: garethdavidstudio.com Contact: [email protected] ***************** #GraphicDesign #LogoDesign #DesignCourse
