Why is Selenium Named So. History of Selenium - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4y4me6hZZk In the year 2004 Jason Huggins, who was an engineer at ThoughtWorks in Chicago was working on a web application project. He wanted a way to test the application and manual testing was very time-consuming. There was no very good open source tool/lib available at that time. So he created his own library in Javascript and called it as Javascript Test Runner He shared it with his team and everyone found it useful. Soon they thought they should make it open source. That time QTP was popular in the market and it was commercial tool maintained by Mercury Interactive. Mercury is a chemical compound (poisonous) In one of the emails that Json Huggins shared with his team, he jokingly said that.
