The lecture discusses how maximizing the data-ink ratio ensures that every visual element contributes meaningfully to representing data, while mobilizing each graphical element multiple times allows for efficient and layered communication of information. It also highlights the importance of maximizing data density and the size of the data matrix to reveal patterns and insights without cluttering the visualization. Together, these principles guide the creation of visuals that are both informative and aesthetically minimal, promoting depth of understanding without distraction.
