This calculus video tutorial provides a basic introduction into solving rectilinear motion problems and solving vertical motion problems such as projectile motion. This video explains how to find the velocity function given the acceleration. It discusses the difference between speed and velocity. Speed and Velocity has the same magnitude but direction is significant for velocity. Velocity can be positive or negative but speed can only be positive. Speed is a scalar quantity and velocity is a vector quantity. Speed is the absolute value of velocity. This video also explains how to determine the position function by finding the indefinite integral of the velocity function. In addition, it discusses the difference between distance and displacement. Distance is a scalar quantity and Displacement is a vector quantity similar to speed vs velocity. Distance can only be positive but displacement can be positive or negative. This video explains how to find the displacement of a particle by evaluating the definite integral of the velocity function over a closed interval. You need to know a few basic integration rules for this video. If you know how to find the antiderivatives of constants, linear functions, and polynomial functions - you should be ok. This video contains one example problem with many parts. The position function is the antiderivative of the velocity function and the velocity function is the antiderivative or integral of the acceleration function.
