Picasa is a good tool to manage them. It is a free photo management program for Windows and Mac that was developed by Google. Although it is not in development anymore, at the time I am making this video, it is my favorite free application to manage pictures on Windows. There are currently no satisfying open source alternatives I know of. Picasa allows you to add metadata to your pictures, to search through your library, and to organize them effortlessly.
