Shell scripts are nothing more than automating the things you'd normally type by hand on the command line. With shell scripting (or more specifically BASH scripting), you can make Linux administration much simpler. In this video we learn a few basics including: - Specifying an interpreter with the Shebang - Assigning variables in a script - Using special variables (passed as arguments) - How to craft a simple FOR loop - Understanding exit statuses. Plus we take a quick look at VI vs NANO, and learn the secret, which is that Linux sysadmins have been doing "DevOps" for decades, long before that term was even invented! This video based on: LPI Linux Essentials Objective 3.3 - Turning Commands into a Script https://www.lpi.org/our-certifications/exam-010-objectives #LPI #LinuxEssentials #Exam_010_160 #Linux Find me online: https://twitter.com/shawnp0wers https://brainofshawn.com Check out my comic! https://twitter.com/MyBigRoundWorld
