The annual Felco pruning competition took place at La Motte Wine Estate in Franschhoek on the 22nd of August this year. The competition is aimed at training and education. The contestants come from all across the Western Cape, and this year the winners of the Inter-varsity (Stellenbosch University, Elsenburg Agricultural College and CPUT Wellington) also battled it out for the overall winner. The competition celebrates the wine industry and the magnificent people that work on the farms, in this case the pruners. The wine industry employed more than 300 000 people both directly and indirectly in the wine industry in 2015, making this a major contributor to the GDP of South Africa. A big thanks to Felco SA for sponsoring and organizing this amazing event each year.
