One recent question I received is if Vitamin D can make you grow taller? Before I start, growing taller can only happen if you’re still going through puberty. If you’re after the age of probably 21 or up to 25, chances are you are DONE growing taller. Your bones have fused. As stated in previous videos, genetics and hormones control your height. And what’s important to know is that Vitamin D is technically a hormone - thus, very important for healthy growth. Now, nutrition of course is also very important for growth. Malnutrition and the lack of calories, fats, proteins, and specific vitamins and minerals all contribute to optimal growth or lack thereof. For example, micronutrients like calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, and phosphorus are involved in bone health, which is central to growth. Vitamin D also helps increase calcium absorption to help maintain skeletal health and bone growth and density. One study found that giving children with low vitamin D levels a vitamin D supplement resulted in increased growth over a 6-month period Keep in mind that Vitamin D needs to be taken with Vitamin K2, to help promote proper calcium absorption into your bones and not your arteries. I’ve listed the best supplements, dosages and forms below, in the description area. Vitamin D is made from the sun. So, the first thing you should do is make sure you get outside and get enough sunlight on your skin, every day for at least 30-60 minutes - this is especially important during puberty. If you’re not doing this and chances are, most people are not getting enough sunlight. … Then you might consider supplementing your diet with a good Vitamin D3 + K2 supplement and I’ve listed the one my family and I use below, in the description area.
