With the power to influence people around the world, a deeper understanding of photographic representation and identity in photography is critical to creating images with a positive impact. Hear from faculty associate and professor Granville Carroll as he discusses one of Arizona State University’s online courses ART 394: Identity and Representation in Photography. One of the most impactful artistic mediums, photography gives us insight into others’ lives and personal experiences. With a direct effect on how people interact with different cultures, Carroll expresses the need for diversity in photography. He also touches on topics covered in this course, including the African Diaspora, Afrofuturism, self portraiture and landscape and identity to cultivate a deeper understanding of these backgrounds.
