I’m currently learning Polish, which is my fourth language, and one of the most challenging I’ve studied so far. I bring over 39 years of experience as a language teacher, having taught both English and Spanish, and in this video I highlight the exact techniques and tools I personally use for effective vocabulary acquisition. The main focus of the video is on showcasing some brilliant AI technologies that can help us learn vocabulary in foreign languages. These tools are useful for students of all levels and can be applied to any language—whether you're learning English, Spanish, French, Polish, or another language. The first technology I introduce is Twee.com (spelled T-W-E-E). This site offers around 20 different AI-powered tools specifically designed to support language learning. These include automatic vocabulary list generators, sentence creation activities, translation tasks, and many other engaging exercises. Twee.com also offers a completely free plan that allows users to access the tools five times per day—making it an excellent resource for both teachers and independent learners. The second tool I demonstrate is Wordwall.net, a platform that provides about 30 different interactive activity types. These are particularly effective for vocabulary practice and include matching activities, games, quizzes, and more—all designed to help learners engage with vocabulary in context. Wordwall is a favorite among language teachers because it supports personalized and immersive learning experiences. I also show how to use YouTube as a language learning resource, especially for finding videos with transcripts. I explain how to search for these videos, access their transcripts, and copy text to check meanings using translation tools. This method helps learners reinforce vocabulary in real-life, spoken contexts. Another essential tool covered is Google Translate, which I demonstrate as a very practical support tool. I show how to use it not only to translate words but also to save vocabulary and phrases for later study. These saved words can then be exported to platforms like Wordwall or other vocabulary training apps. This video is packed with concrete, actionable ideas based entirely on what I do when studying languages. Whether you're a language teacher or a student, you’ll find effective strategies and AI technologies that can help us learn vocabulary in foreign languages—all of which are immediately usable in the classroom or for independent study.
