Welcome back to our series on the fundamentals of integral journalism. In the last few episodes, we saw how Stefan Schultz collected hundreds of methods from all kinds of disciplines and sorted them into his IJ matrix. This matrix combines the five principles of integral journalism with the seven process steps involved in creating a typical journalistic story. This made it possible to tap into a huge treasure trove of methods for journalism in a practical and targeted way. But now, when this matrix was almost complete, Stefan sensed a shift at an even deeper level. He realized that his model was changing more than just individual principles and understandings of roles. The systemic logic represented by his matrix had little to do with the conventional paradigm of journalism. It seemed as if his matrix revealed a whole new way of thinking about journalism.
